Two unrelated thoughts on a 12 day cruise:
1.Routine imprints itself so quickly that doing a cruise longer that our usual 7 days is very disorienting, like the way you feel after pulling an all-nighter, less bothered by exhaustion than feeling confused without the reset between days. It’s like we’ve dropped into purgatory week.
2.I have heard that it is not uncommon for passengers to die on a 12 day cruise. Most of the passengers are significantly older. And I guess, the longer the cruise, the shorter the odds. RC mentioned that on his last contract, four passengers died during a reposition cruise to Alaska. I’ve even heard a few more veteran crew members suggest that some older passengers come on these longer cruise specifically to die. One last hurrah. Although I’m not sure if they were implying actual suicide or just the gentle sort of “well, I can die now” drifting off that you see in movies. As far as I know there have been no deaths on-board during this entire contract, but then again, it’s not exactly the sort of thing that gets advertised.
